Formerly "To China For Kelly"

When I originally set up this blog, it was to chronicle our trip to China to adopt our daughter, Kelly; thus the title, "To China For Kelly." But now that I've decided to keep it up as my on-line scrapbook/journal, the title needs updating.
Inspired by my girls, who, despite their ten year age difference, both love lollipops and lip gloss; it is now titled, "From Lollipops to Lip Gloss." This is not to leave my son out, who also loves lollipops, but isn't too big on lip gloss, understandably!

My Boy

Last week we had our 6-month check-up/cleaning at the dentist. Such fun.
While we were there, Caleb had a full mouth x-ray that revealed his wisdom teeth pushing in on his other permanent teeth, causing so much crowding that a few of his baby teeth were not able to come out because the permanent teeth above them had no room to come down. This meant those wisdom teeth were going to need to come out.

We wanted to get it done before the end of the year for insurance purposes, but the dentist was pretty booked, so we went on a waiting list in hopes that we could get in if they had a cancellation.
Wouldn't you know it? Monday morning they called me at 10:30 and said they had a cancellation and needed Caleb there by 12:30! So I got my hiney in gear and pulled him out of school and got him up to the dentist.

He was a real trooper. They were only able to get the two bottom wisdom teeth out, plus they pulled the three remaining baby teeth, so he had five teeth, total, extracted! Since they weren't able to get the top wisdom teeth out, he's going to need a palette expander on top.

This is Caleb, before surgery... so handsome, isn't he?

This is Caleb post-surgery... YIKES! They assure us the swelling will go down... whoooo, let's hope so!

He's been home from school, taking it easy, keeping ice on his jaw. His diet consists mainly of mashed potatoes, pudding, ice cream, yogurt, and jello. He's looking forward to biting into some real food- hopefully soon.

I'm enjoying having him home, waiting on him hand-and-foot. Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration... he's actually the easiest patient and doesn't ask for much... but we moms love the chance to baby our sons, don't we? So that's what I've been trying to do, but with Kelly, well, truth be told, it's not so easy-- Caleb's probably actually helping me more than I'm helping him!

Oh Poor Caleb! He still looks handsome in the post surgery picture and I have to give him credit for smiling! I hope his recovery is a swift one and not too painful! The joys of having teeth! Feel better soon Caleb!

Love you all,

Debbie

Oh Debbie! Thank you for feeling his pain! You and I know all too well how "fun" dental care is!
Thanks for adding what I should have said, which is that he IS still handsome even after his surgery!
I'll pass on your well wishes to him.
Love,
Jen

Oh my precious Caleb! I am so sorry you had to go through all that. What a chin! I just wanted to cry for you but with that smile I could see how brave you were! I hope your swelling is subsiding and pray that there is little or no pain. I wish I could kiss away the BO BOs that come across your life but I can't. Some things just make us stronger for having gone through them. I love you and know that your are in great HANDS! Hugs and kisses. My loving thoughts are with you. Nanna4calebattyrose
